Many parents will agree, raising a child can get expensive. While there certainly are ways to manage the costs associated with raising a child, there's always a need and/or desire to find more ways that will work, right? Medical costs are always a large, and sometimes uncontrollable contributor to the family budget. While I've been lucky to have a reasonably healthy family, it's vision care, in particular, that has cost us quite a bit. Out of 6 of us, only one of us has been lucky to have perfect vision, and that's one of my twin daughters. Everyone else, however... not so lucky. Two of us wear contacts, and everyone else wears glasses. The two of us who wear contacts, however, being myself and my son, like to have a pair of glasses handy just in case a contact tears or an eye becomes infected. Furthermore, I really don't know how healthy it is to wear contacts day in and day out. While we do use the kind of contacts you can sleep in, I think it's important to give your eyes a break every now and then. The challenge, however, is my budget.
When it comes to those in the household who wear glasses only, it's a no-brainer. The cost of glasses MUST be worked into the budget. But for the two of us who wear contacts, glasses are something we've just had to do without. Until recently, that is. I recently received the opportunity to receive a free pair of glasses in exchange for my honest review of a company called Eyeglassio. The first thing I heard about Eyeglassio was that they offer customized prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses starting at $6. My first thought was "cheap" and "low-quality". But... I can admit when I'm wrong, and listen to this.... I WAS WRONG.
Teenagers and adults are likely going to like many of the styles that cost more than $6. However, you can get a fabulous COMPLETE pair of eyeglasses at Eyeglassio for less than $50. Furthermore, if you're a parent of a child who wears glasses, you have likely experienced that scenario where your child comes home with a broken pair of frames or a missing lens. This can be really frustrating, despite the fact we love our kids and understand that these things do happen. Admittedly, I did once make my son go to school for about a month with the classic "revenge of the nerds taped in the middle" glasses as punishment for breaking his glasses while goofing off. But honestly, I hate to do that. As one who cannot function without my glasses, I understand the embarrassment. With that said, when you know there's a risk of having to purchase more than one pair of glasses for your child, Eyeglassio offers the perfect solution. As an added bonus, the styles are fun and fabulous. My favorite styles for kids are:
Rifle - $19.00
Anyone who loves Sully from Monsters, Inc. can't help but fall in love with these adorable frames. Even my girls, who are 11, were crazy in love with them when they saw them on the Eyeglassio website.
Vayle for Kids $14.50
This is the perfect frame for the little girl who loves to rock the latest styles without rocking all of the funds out of the bank account. These frames are absolutely adorbs!
Kayden for Kids $14.50
Professional yet stylish, these frames are perfect for the budding businessman in the household.
The collection I chose from, however, was from the Men's line, as I decided that my son, who plays a variety of high-school sports, currently has more of a need for a spare pair of eyeglasses than anyone else in the household. There were so many frames to choose from, it was hard to make a selection. We finally decided upon the Lahoma, which is currently not in stock. But, never fear, they still have a wide selection of stylish and even some very unique frames. Currently, my favorite men's frame featured on their site is the Ilario, which has "manly" features and is sure to create a professional, handsome look on any man.
They also have a variety of stylish frames for women, such as the Adette, which brings a vintage, 1950's appeal with a bit of a modern flair. For just $24.50, any girl can look like a million bucks without spending even $100. You really can't beat a deal like that!
